Well .....
'Ace' Parker is done for the yr w/the shoulder
Now our 'Ice' Wiggins looks to be done for the yr w/a ruptured Achilles
After our last home game some of us were just talking about the talented 2008 draft class & how it's been tough for many of the top picks to make it through a whole season little did we know
Others out
Ruth Riley of SA is out 4-8 wks after surgery on a broken finger
Beside A. Beard out from the start of the season, now Janica Monroe w/the Mystics is out 6-8 wks w/a broken hand
Dang when it rains it pours |

This what I want to know, how do they know what type of injury she has without seeing a doctor? Or taking x-ray? To me the diagnosis was pretty quick. Rumors are Candice is out for season! |

What I don't understand, was there any x-rays taken in the locker room? That's pretty quick! |

Generally speaking there are preliminary test that a trainer/doctor can do on an injured individual with many types of injuries that will allow them to make an early diagnosis. Many times x-rays, MRIs etc are just a confirmation of the severity of the injury. A rupture is one of those types of injuries.
As for Wiggs, radio was like 5-7 sec. ahead of the live access feed & I think radio guy said she might have been pushed or tripped (truth I don’t remember exactly what he said) but I was able to watch & she really did look like she just kind of crumpled to the floor to me. Not that I knew or know the injury but she went down in an odd way to me. With her back to the camera it was hard to tell what she was grabbing (knee, leg, ankle). |

Minnie Me is right, there are tests that the well qualified trainers and physicians perform in the locker room that can give a pretty good idea to what is going on. I tore my ACL playing college volleyball, our team was out of town playing in the conference tournament. It just so happened that our football team was also in the same town, and at the gym watching our game. After I went down with the injury, the head trainer for the fball team came over and did an exam, using the Lachman test, and with just her hands manipulating my knee she had a pretty good idea that it was a torn ACL.
With Wiggins injury, I hear that is pretty painful, and torn Achilles feels like someone shot the back of your leg, so with an exam and how the athlete describes the pain, it is easy to get an early diagnosis.
What a bummer for her....just coming back and out again...drats. |

I forgot others I know but former Sky Shyra Ely was lost for the season too.
And news Twitted this evening from LA :
| Quote: | | LA_Sparks Here is some news tweeps: guard Betty Lennox will have knee surgery early next week to prepare a meniscus tear... keep her in ur thoughts! |
Speaking of Shyra, she is doing a blog while rehabbing and gives a shoutout to all of the injured ....

Before my injury, basketball had become a grind and a job. I think I took ball for granted. That’s hard to admit but it’s real. It’s a weird feeling. |

| I wonder when WNBA players will start deciding that it's not worth risking injury for not much money in the WNBA when their real paychecks are overseas? |

My understanding is that the reason many of the players can get a big salary overseas is due to their play in the WNBA. |

Yeah, it seems like a double-edged sword that way. Only the BIG stars who've already proven themselves could still take time off from the WNBA and still pull down that big overseas salary.
And even those who aren't the big names can still earn a decent living, if they really want to play that badly. |
